Are you thinking about how to register your business with the Corporate Affairs Commission of NigeriaCorporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria?

Then, please find below the step-by-step procedure on how to register your business:

1. Think of names you’d wish to register your business with

Think of about 4-5 names you would want your business to bear. Note that some of the names you’re thinking about may already be in existence.That is, some of those names might have been registered.

Thus, the more names you can come up with, the greater the odds of providing a name that’s not yet registered.

2. Conduct a public name search

Conduct a public search for each of the names you’ve come up with. Here’s how to do the public search: visit http://publicsearch.cac.gov.ng/ComSearch/

Type in each of your proposed business names in the space provided. Check the captcha and click search. If the name is already in existence or has already been registered, you’ll see the result. However, if it’s not yet registered, no result will be returned.

If all your proposed names are already registered, repeat steps 1&2. However, if any two of the proposed names are not yet registered, then proceed to step 3

3. Create an account with the Corporate Affairs Commission

Visit https://services.cac.gov.ng/signup to create an account on the CAC Services portal. Fill out the form on that very page as accurately as possible.

Make sure the email address provided on the form is accessible. This is because a confirmation link will be sent to that email. Also, ensure your password is safe kept as this is what you’ll need to login to your account once confirmed.Once you’re done filling out the form, click ‘Register’.

A confirmation link will be sent to the email address you provided when filling out the registration form. Log into you email and click to confirm your account.

Once your account is confirmed, log back into your account by visiting https://services.cac.gov.ng/login

Type in your email and password.

4. Reserve a business name.

Visit the business name registration page https://services.cac.gov.ng/name-reservation/application Fill out the form presented. You’ll have to provide two proposed business names.

The classification type will be business name. You can choose ‘Company’ if you desire to register a company straightaway. Click on ‘Save and Continue’.

Fill out the rest of the form providing your business objectives, the presenter details and proceed to payment when you’re sure all the information provided is correct. Choose the payment option you wish to use. You might use a debit card, or generate a remita number with which you can make payment at the bank.

Once payment is successful, you have competed the name reservation process.

If you made payment before 2pm Nigerian time, check back in 4 hours for the result of the name search. If the search was successful, one of the names presented will be reserved for you.

That reservation will last for about 60 days within which you’ll be expected to complete the rest of the business registration process.

However, if the search wasn’t successful probably because the name is already registered, you’ll unfortunately have to repeat step 4.
